If there is anything that quarantine has reinforced- it is the importance and need to sometimes, wait. We wait for computers to load and connect to the network. We wait for lights to turn green. For meetings to start and friends to be on-time (yeah, I am the perpetually late guy- pray for me). We wait for weekends, vacations, and even time itself. At the same time, we wait for reward, relationships, reconciliation, revenge, and even for hurt. Instead of challenging ourselves, we wait for someone else to respond instead of dealing with the emotions, thoughts, and resources we have in waiting.
Getting into the habit of waiting can be a healthy habit, particularly if you know why and are active in your waiting. Waits do not need to be divorced from and devoid of the time, the silence they may seem to occupy- those moments can be redeemed too. Waiting and paralysis are not synonymous. This week I waited for someone...when I am pretty sure God was waiting on me to trust him in obedience and proceed in faith. I was wrapped up in waiting just for the sake of waiting. I thought. I prayed. I read God's Word. I sought counsel. And still I waited.
Timing is everything. The hour and minutes of perfection never come. What are you waiting for?
