Gears In Motion: Episode One (2)

Sometimes, action and initiative get a bad rap; and in the face of uncertainty and fear, we stalemate ourselves- and somehow we garner and self-aggrandize both as if they are somehow better alternatives. Go figure. I feel no need to defend myself, but many times, I just do things (or so some of my friends tell me). And to the untrained observer, it would appear so. I go. I don't do any advertising. There is no fanfare. I think and therefore I do (not am)- you'll find out later (if at all).

Within the context of career, I call this intentional exploring. You are not wondering aimlessly. You are intentionally experimenting. Why wade in standing water when an adventure awaits? When unsure where to go, explore. Ford has and continues to make millions off the namesake of this concept- Explorer. Don't know what you want to specialize in? Try something. While there is strength in numbers and you should ask for help when needed, don't wait for someone to make a decision for you to try. If the experiment works, you tried. And if it does not work, you tried. Time is on no one's side. Within your sphere of influence, you are entrusted with skill, talent, and time (not just money). Doing nothing and unwisely stewarding your gifts yield the same result- nothing.

In Episode Two (2) of Gears in Motion, I asked Regine when her turning point in making decisions came, what makes a meaningful career, and why driving impact is not optional.
